Siemens to construct UK offshore wind factory

Prime Minister David Cameron has welcomed a recent announcement by Siemens and Associated British Ports. The organizations have agreed to invest £310 million in wind turbine production and installation facilities in Yorkshire.

The investment will boost the economy and the UK offshore wind industry. It will also create in excess of 1,000 employment opportunities.

Cameron said:

“This is a massive vote of confidence in our long-term economic plan. This investment is going to create lots of new jobs and opportunities, meaning more financial security and peace of mind for families and a more resilient economy for our country.” As a result the Chancellor has visited the UK’s largest steel plant which has shown its support for energy intensive manufacturing. As an organization, Tata Steel produce 5 million tonnes of steel each year and employs over 4,000 people. Tata Steel will receive a £7 billion investment.
