Another energy expert backs Scottish independence

The Scottish National Party has welcomed a “yes” vote from Dick Winchester, experienced representive of the Scottish Energy Advisory Board and expert in the energy industry.

In response, Fergus Ewing said:

“The fact that yet another energy expert has backed a Yes vote is very welcome – as we approach the referendum more and more people in the industry are waking up to the incredible opportunities of independence. Dick Winchester is right to highlight the gross mismanagement of Scotland’s energy resources by successive UK governments – for too long the revenues from Scotland’s energy wealth have been squandered by the Treasury and the unstable tax regime imposed by Westminster has held the industry back.” “That Mr Winchester is adding his voice to the likes of Professor Sir Donald Mackay and Professor John Howell is a demonstration of the strength of support for Yes amongst Scotland’s energy experts – it’s time for the No campaign to accept what the experts say and stop talking down our energy industry. A Yes vote is our opportunity to put an end to Westminster’s mismanagement of our energy resources – and to make our energy wealth work for people in Scotland, rather than the Treasury in London.” In addition the party has received support from Scottish Enterprise Professor, Sir Donald Mackay and Chair in Geology and Petroleum Geology at University of Aberdeen, Professor John Howell.
