Milton Keynes unveils driverless cars

The first driverless cars which will work on public footpaths arrived in Milton Keynes and will be trialled later this year.

The new vehicles will be tested before a fleet of 40 pods go into operation by the end of 2017.

The electric-powered vehicles can seat two people, and are designed to work on pavements and pedestrianised areas. They are being built by the RDM Group, which is one of the UK's fastest growing advanced engineering companies and will contain sensor and navigation technology.

Milton Keynes is establishing itself as one of the global leaders in transport innovation and smart mobility; this will mean with the introduction of driverless cars Milton Keynes will be at the forefront of technology which will bring great benefits to residents who will be able to use this cheaper, convenient and more environmentally aware mode of transport for journeys.
