MPs set out building blocks for low-carbon transition

The Energy and Climate Change Select Committee has called for Westminster to deliver a "stable and consistent" policy framework in order to ensure the energy system is "highly decarbonised" by 2030.

Earlier this month the Committee published its final report of the session, on Fuelling the Debate: Committee Successes and Future Challenges. It said the next Government should prioritise providing investors with confidence, setting the Fifth Carbon Budget and ensuring that it had the policies to meet it. Promoting new technologies such as shale gas and continuing to build consumer trust would also be essential, the report said.
