National Grid says summer supplies look "adequate"

National Grid has said the supply of gas and electric to the UK for the summer period is in “good shape” to meet operational challenges. The system operator published its summer outlook report earlier this month.

National Grid said that forward prices suggest coal would remain the favoured fuel for generation.

The report’s peak weather corrected summer demand for the high summer period was the lowest ever forecast at 37.5GW. This reflects the increase in the solar photovoltaic installations and the peak in generation capacity from these installations coinciding with peak energy demands.
