Funding boost for low-emission propulsion technologies
The UK has an opportunity to develop low-emission vehicle propulsion through a £60 million fund to allow businesses to advance technologies in the industry.
The Advanced Propulsion Centre is seeking proposals for projects led by businesses that will deliver significant reductions in CO2 or other emissions.
The UK has strengths in powertrain engineering and low carbon innovation. The APC is working in partnership with the Department for Business Innovation and Skills and Innovate UK.
Projects must be based around one or more propulsion technology areas:
• internal combustion engines;
• lightweight powertrain structures;
• electric machines and power electronics;
• energy storage and energy management; and
• alternative propulsion systems.
Funding criteria include:
• large businesses can attract up to 50% funding of costs, medium-sized businesses 60% and small businesses 70%;
• each project must include a vehicle manufacturer or a tier 1 supplier and an SME;
• total project costs to be between £5 million and £40 million and for projects to last between 18 and 42 months;
• applications must be made to Innovate UK;
• the deadline for registration is noon on 24 June 2015;
• a briefing event takes place at the APC hub on 15 May 2015.
