Environment Agency extends consultation on fracking plans

An extension has been granted to the public consultation on the Third Energy’s application for a permit to carry out fracking in North Yorkshire. The consultation by the Environment Agency will now be open until 7 August.

The consultation was commenced earlier this summer after Third Energy UK Gas Limited applied to the Environment Agency for the relevant environmental permits to exploit shale gas from a site near Kirby Misperton.

Usually, environmental permit consultations run for four weeks. The Environment Agency has however decided that it will extend this period to allow for people to fully read and consider the proposals.

The consultation gives an opening for the public to raise any local environmental concerns as a result of the permit being issued.
