Welsh government to boost energy performance in public bodies

Natural Resource Minister, Carl Sargeant has announced £1.5 million of additional funding from the European Investment Bank’s ELENA programme. The funding will improve energy performance of public bodies in Wales.

Sargeant said that the public sector has an important role to play. He said:

“I am already providing support for public bodies in Wales to accelerate energy generation and efficiency projects. We are working with local authorities to develop smart, innovative solutions to support local homes, businesses and communities through effective and sustainable use of own resources. The extra £1.5 million we have secured from the European Investment Bank’s ELENA will deliver over £30 million of low risk investment in energy efficiency over the next three years.” “The future direction of energy in Wales will be founded upon a flexible and diverse energy mix at all scales. Central to our approach, Green Growth Wales: Investment support in developing ways of supporting and significantly accelerating investment to develop resource efficiency, renewables and waste infrastructure. This support will help the public sector meet its sustainable development duties as well as supporting private and third sector projects that contribute to our wider objectives.”
