Scottish Labour makes green commitments

Kezia Dugdale, has marked Climate Day with an announcement of how Scotland intends to deliver world leading ambitions on climate change. The plans include:

1. A ban on fracking.

2. Cancelling the SNP’s cut to air passenger duty. This was expected to cause an annual increase in greenhouse gas emissions of 50,000 tonnes.

3. The introduction of a Warm Homes Act to update the regulations on fuel poverty.

Kezia said:

“The greatest global challenge facing my generation is climate change. The next Scottish Government needs to offer more than warms words; it needs to deliver real change.” “A Labour Scottish Government will ban fracking. Science tells us the last thing our climate needs is another fossil fuel. With Labour there will be no ifs, no buts, no fracking in Scotland.” “Labour will deliver a ground-breaking Warm Homes Act that will drive up energy efficiency and insulation standards so we can tackle fuel poverty and cut emissions.” “A Labour Scottish Government will cancel the SNP’s tax cut for the airlines which will lead to an extra 50,000 greenhouse gas emissions in Scotland every year.” "The SNP's approach to climate change is similar to its whole approach to government - set a target, miss it and then set an even tougher target in the hope nobody notices.” “Labour will deliver a Scottish Government that finally implements the policies to match our ambitions on the environment and climate change. Labour will use the powers to deliver a greener, fairer Scotland.”
