Boost consumer power in the energy market
Industry and Energy Committee MEPs have called for consumers to be given more power within the energy market. The schemes they recommend include collective buying and better price comparison tools.
The MEPs made the following proposals:
1. To introduce new business models such as collective purchasing schemes. This will allow consumers to use more self-generation.
2. To create fairer conditions for tenants.
3. To reduce the administration barriers to new energy self generation.
4. To make energy pricing more transparent to include more frequent billing and easier contract terms.
5. To tackle fuel poverty “for EU funds for energy efficiency and support for self-generation to better focus on energy poor low income consumers”.
