DECC consults on extending CfD delivery years

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change has recently announced its consultation on changing the Contracts for Difference regulations. The intention is to extend the delivery yeas and to enable an increase in the number of auctions.

Energy Secretary Amber Rudd has announced plans to hold the next allocation round late in 2016. Back in March it was announced in the budget that the Government intends to auction up to £730 million of CfDs to support up to 4gw of offshore wind and other less established renewables.

Support will be offered to projects generating electricity in 2021 to 2026. The consultation seeks to extend the delivery years to 31 March 2026. The Department for Energy and Climate Change has said that without the extension it would be unable to open the allocation rounds for projects to be commissioned after 31 March 2020.

The consultation was open until 8 August 2016.
