Green Energy UK wins vehicle charging contract

A Ware firm has signed an exclusive deal to provide green energy to a network of electric vehicle charging points.

Green Energy UK, which operates out of Baldock Street, will provide Green Motion’s Network One stations with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.

The announcement was made at the Geneva Motor Show and will give the charging points the distinction of being the only ones in the country connecting cars directly with energy from green sources.

Green Energy UK’s chief executive, Douglas Stewart says: Electric vehicles are a huge step forward but much more is required, otherwise progress made here just pollutes someone else’s back yard. We hope to make sure that electric vehicle customers make a positive difference and this partnership takes us another step closer to a cleaner future. Now we are making a difference.”

Green Motion’s UK managing director, Stewart McKee, added: “This is a game changing industry partnership which will accelerate the adoption of electric cars and reduce carbon-based energy reliance. It is also hugely significant to the UK’s global technology position in the rapidly growing zero emission transport sector.”

Mr McKee argued that Green Energy UK’s involvement disparaged the claim that electric vehicles did not improve the environment because they used carbon-based energy production.

Green Motion launched in the UK earlier this year, having been already established Switzerland, Germany and France.

More than 25,000 electric vehicle installations are planned to be completed in the country by 2015, with around 100,000 charging points estimated to be up and running by 2018.
