Competition

A costume design graduate from Brighton won the chance to judge Green Energy UK’s London Vintage Festival after beating rivals in an online competition.

Aimee Sibun, a graduate from the University of Arts London and a former Varndean College student, was selected to judge the Retread-Your-Threads sustainable fashion show held at the Southbank Centre last weekend.

Aimee said: “Judging the fashion show was a lot of fun and there were so many fantastic characters it was a tough decision to make.”

Aimee created a vintage swimwear piece made from a blazer and skirt bought in a charity shop.

Aimee said: “Shopping in charity and second hand shops, rather than on the high street, is a good way to avoid looking the same as everybody else. Moreover, it’s important to reuse and recycle clothes.”

Green Energy UK is an independent supplier of green electricity. Chief Executive Doug Stewart said: “We love the idea of breathing new life into something old. We do it by recycling waste into clean power, and Aimee and all the other people who entered Retread-Your-Threads have done this by taking old clothes and turning them into something new.”
