Don’t spend £t- Save £t

Being green is about so much more than just power. It’s a choice and a different way of looking at things.

When we set Seaford resident Carol Worms a challenge to reduce her electricity consumption by 10% during the following year, we wondered if she could achieve it, so we bet a whole year’s energy supply on the outcome!

Carol, who with her husband George runs car recycling business, Brighton Motorama, was happy to oblige. “It’s fantastic. I’m very pleased and excited by the challenge. It is making us think about how we can save energy. We try to be as green as we can, we have energy saving bulbs in most rooms, but I’ve noticed how some appliances have digital clocks that are on all the time. We looked into buying solar panels so we could have renewable electricity at home, but it was too expensive, and now thanks to green energy uk we can have it anyway.”

At the time our chief executive, Doug Stewart, said: “It’ll be interesting to see if Carol can use less electricity in her home. I hope she can do it.” In the event Carol ended up saving 25% by just doing the little things. It was just a common sense approach. “We still do all the things we used to do” she said “only now we make sure if we don’t need something we switch it off at the plug”.

If everyone reduces their consumption just a little, it’ll lower demand, reduce emissions and have a positive impact. And in Doug’s opinion, the greenest electricity is the stuff we don’t use! “Even though this business is about selling green electricity, we encourage people to use less.”

So being green is about so much more than just power. It’s a choice, it’s a different way of looking at things and it’s a way of saving, not spending money!

As we see it green energy isn’t just about wind, and energy isn’t just about 6 multinational players. There’s room for a few more little guy sin the energy markets, room for a little more choice, room for some alternative ways of looking at the industry.

Our 21st century lifestyles demand cheap abundant energy and the industry has and continues to deliver that to the widest possible church of consumers. But there’s room for some challenges, room for some kinds of consumer motivation.

Green isn’t what we are about! We’re about providing new kinds of energy but without our customers noticing the difference. About delivering electricity where polite people on the end of the phone is a given. Where the level of say our customers have, and the level of participation they have in the company sets us apart from the pack. You see all our customers have the opportunity to share in the ownership of the company for free.

Now there’s a difference!

So it’s not about spending your money on technology, it’s not about being clever and it’s not even about being green. It’s common sense. So don’t waste it; save it.

Save money and feel better. If nothing else we’ll help you try!!
