Since 30th May 2011, all micro-hydro installations (those with a declared net capacity of 50kW or less) commissioned between 1st April 2010 and 1st April 2012 are now required to seek accreditation through the Ofgem ROO-FIT accreditation process. To apply for ROO-FIT accreditation, you will need to create an account for yourself on the Renewables and CHP Register.

Once you have created an account you will have to process your application online and you will have to notify us when you received your ROO-FIT number in order for us to process your application.

There are proposed new tariffs for solar photovoltaic installations with an eligibility date on or after 12th December 2011 (see under export on this page).

Feed in Tariff (FiT)

What is it?

The Feed-in Tariff (FiT) is a government initiative designed to encourage householders and small businesses to generate and use their own electricity.

The tariff covers the following technologies- solar, wind, hydro, anaerobic digestion and micro CHP (only relates to micro CHP up to 2kW).

Generators with installed capacity up to 5MW can qualify for FiTs but as a voluntary FiT supplier Green Energy UK will only accept applications from our own customers for capacity up to 50kW under the feed-in tariff. If you are not currently a customer and want to apply for FiT payments from Green Energy UK then you need to switch your supply to us first.

You can see other reasons why you might want to switch your supply to us in our Our Energy and About Us sections.

You can find the price of both our domestic tariffs by entering your postcode here.

To register please download our FiT application form:

How does it work?

New installations

Under the FiTs scheme you are guaranteed a minimum payment for all the electricity generated by your home generation system, even that which you use yourself. Any generation above and beyond the amount of electricity that your household uses can be exported to the national grid and a separate payment is given for this as well. These payments are in addition to the bill savings made by using the electricity generated on-site.

If you are considering installing a Microgeneration System you must use an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited installer in order to be able to apply for the Feed in Tariff. Your MCS accredited installer will give you a certificate with a unique MCS number on completion of your installation.

How much will I be paid?

The Department of Energy and Climate change (DECC) sets the rates that you receive for your installation under the Feed In Tariff. These payments are split into two parts:

Generation

This is the payment that you receive for every unit that you generate even if you use it yourself. The rates vary according to technology and installed capacity (the maximum possible output in 1 hour).

Export

This is the payment for every excess unit that goes back into the grid.

What do I need to do?

  1. If you are planning to install some renewable technology, give us a call and we'll send you a copy of our Feed in Tariff application form. You can also download a copy from our website if you would prefer.
  2. Once your installation is completed send us the completed application and a copy of your MCS certificate. If more than five days have elapsed since your installation was completed you will need to take a generation meter read on the day you send your form back. We cannot back date payments to the start reading. We cannot begin the registration until we have received BOTH a completed FiT application form and a copy of your MCS Certificate, so please do not send us one without the other.
  3. We will start the registration process on the Central FiT register at Ofgem, this will generate a FiT registration number and confirm the correct tariff rate.
  4. We will write to you with your registration number, tariff rate, period of payment and the terms and conditions of the scheme which you will need to sign and return.
  5. Once we have received your signed copy, we can complete the registration and start making payments. Under the legislation we can only start making payments from the date we receive your FiT application form so you'll need to take a generation meter read on the day you return the form to us.

If you have any questions about applying for payments under the Feed In Tariff or filling in your application from, please get in touch with us.

What if I don't have an export meter?

You can still receive some export payment as Ofgem will allow half of your generated units to be estimated or “deemed” to be exported. This is a temporary arrangement until the specification for smart meters is finalised. If your installation is over 6kW and you are sure that you can export more than half of your generation it may be worth installing an export meter, although there is a cost which varies from region to region.

How often will I be paid?

We aim to pay our generators on a quarterly basis but we can only arrange for payment if we receive an up to date reading for your account for that quarter. Which is the end of March, June, September and December. You may also be asked to submit a monthly meter read for statistical purposes.

As I will be generating my own electricity will I still get electricity bills?

Unfortunately yes! As there will be times when you won't be generating enough electricity for your own needs, you will still need to buy a certain amount of electricity and pay the standing charge which covers the cost of delivering the electricity to your home.

Do you install?

We do not install but you can find accredited installers on the MCS website.

Commercial installations over 50kW of installed capacity

We are always interested in larger scale generators who are interested in selling their energy and are currently on the Renewable or CHP register at Ofgem. Please call the office for pricing and terms.

Some of you may have heard of the Renewable Heat Incentive proposed for 2011. For more information on the incentive click here.

If you have any further questions about the Feed in Tariff or generating your own electricity please don’t hesitate to ring us on 01920 483046 or email edd@greenenergyuk.
