Sustainable homes

It's not easy being green all by yourself

Our specialist team at Green Energy UK are qualified assessors under the code for Sustainable Homes and can assist you in obtaining certification. We would be very happy to act as assessor to any new property hoping to obtain the code. The process will usually involve a pre construction meeting to discuss the aims of the build, a design stage assessment at which an interim certificate can be achieved based on architects and developers plans, and finally a post construction assessment to ensure that all desired goals have been reached.

The Code for Sustainable Homes is an environmental assessment method for rating and certifying the performance of new homes with a view to encouraging continuous improvement in sustainable home building.

The Code covers nine categories:

  • Energy and CO2 emissions
  • Water
  • Materials
  • Surface water run off
  • Waste
  • Pollution
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Management
  • Ecology

Each category is a source of environmental impacts which can be assessed against a performance target and awarded credits. Performance targets are more demanding than the minimum standards needed to satisfy building regulations. They represent good or best practice, are technically feasible and can be delivered by the building industry.
