UK will ratify Paris Agreement “as soon as possible”
Nick Hurd, Climate Change Minister has refused to provide a timeframe within which the UK will ratify the Paris Climate Agreement. It has said it will take place “as soon as possible.”
Hurd said, at a debate in the House of Commons, that early ratification of the deal was important “symbolically”. However he warned that the UK’s reputation for leadership on climate change was not dependent on any single issue.
Shadow international trade and energy secretary Barry Gardiner said that the debate over the agreement highlighted the division within the Conservatory Party between those with the views of climate action as “just costly green crap” and the “few sane heads”.
