Thumbs Up for Green Energy but Adoption Rates Still Low

Despite green energy remaining high on the agenda and the recent claim that *four out of five people support the UK using renewable energy to generate power, the number of consumers and businesses making the switch is still low, says green energy uk.

The green electricity provider, which provides sustainable electricity through methods including anaerobic digestion and Combined Heat and Power (CHP), has seen a positive turnaround on the green debate over the past decade. But worries, despite the encouraging words of support from UK consumers, that national acceptance and implementation is still a pipe dream.

Doug Stewart, CEO of green energy uk, explains: “Picking which utility company you receive power from isn’t a glamorous or interesting process and not something really thought through – most people stick with the provider they’ve always had or have switched over for a cheaper deal.

“That said, when it comes to discussions around where our energy will come from in the future and how we all feel about solar panels on the roof, wind farms in the countryside or recycling at home, everyone has an opinion, and rightly so. Yet, energy consumption is taken for granted. While the majority of people consider themselves ‘green’, only a small percentage of the population has actually championed green fuels and dramatically reduced their carbon consumption at home or work by switching supplier.

“Renewable, sustainable, green energy is a solution and although it’s commendable that we all recognise that, the public aren’t voting with their feet or demanding that their electricity supplier provides it to them. We don’t want to chastise customers for not making the change, particularly through this difficult economic period, but green energy doesn’t cost a premium and financing new methods now will mean we safeguard our supplies for the future instead of having to rely on expensive fossil fuel imports.”

Over the past decade green energy uk, which endorses a common-sense approach to green living, has supported more innovative ways of sourcing green energy while advising its customers on how they can make a difference without making a big or costly change.
