Keeping it local, keeping it real
We’re based in a little Hertfordshire town called Ware, in a lovingly restored 16th Century coaching inn.
Many of our staff are local and walk or cycle to work. We source all of our own suppliers very carefully - for instance we only use the no.1 sustainable printer in the UK. Even their ink is vegetable based!
Sir David Attenborough has said that if there was just one thing he could ask each of us to do, it would be to waste less.Whilst we make good use of waste and generate energy from it, we also know we need to minimise it too. We know we can’t change the world but we can change the way we think.
Some of the things we commit to include:
Four responsible office tips to help everyone to think!
1. Change all your light bulbs to low-energy LEDs
There are LED equivalents for most light fittings so there’s really no excuse.
2. Remove individual desk bins
It’s so easy to mindlessly throw everything in a desk bin. If you only provide minimal general waste bins and lots of recycling bins, then it encourages people to get up and recycle!
3. Investigate local recycling schemes
Your local council may not be able to take every type of plastic but a little research and there are lots of recycling schemes out there. For example:
A good place to start is by looking at the Terracycle programme.
4. Go green!
Well we would say that, wouldn’t we? But seriously, it’s probably the biggest single thing a business can do to reduce its carbon foot print. And the beauty about choosing Green Energy UK as your supplier is you can tell everyone that you buy only 100% green energy.
