As part of our #learnonething series we have been speaking to some of our customers about their lockdown experiences.

Here’s Lisa telling us about her experiences during the summer of 2020.

One of the things that we all noticed is the amount of people out walking. Our CEO, Doug Stewart, commented the other day that it was a bit like going back to the 1950’s when people went for a Sunday drive – for no other reason other than to go for a drive.

Sometimes it really is the simplest things that can bring so much pleasure – certainly many of us in the office have really come to appreciate our immediate surroundings and the green spaces available to us.

Maybe it’s because we spend so much time rushing around and with that comes noise. Life can be noisy. But lockdown has brought a quietness to our world. Where birdsong can be heard even in urban areas where before it was drowned out by human activity.

We’re not dreamers here at GEUK – we know that once coronavirus is under control, that life will go back up through the gears and we’ll soon find ourselves rushing around again. But we do hope that positive lessons can be learnt from this experience – ones that we can take forwards to a post-pandemic society. Not least to help combat our biggest global threat – climate change.
